United States Navy USS New Orleans Damaged

A fire broke out aboard the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans at about 4 p.m. local time on 20 August 2025 while the ship was anchored off Okinawa, and was extinguished early the next morning after burning for roughly 12 hours, the U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement reported by CNN and USNI News. Two sailors were treated for minor injuries, according to the Navy, and Japan Coast Guard vessels helped fight the blaze. The cause was placed under investigation. New Orleans, a San Antonio-class ship with a crew of more than 360 sailors and room for about 800 embarked troops, is forward-deployed to Japan.
