Description
HMS Agamemnon was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 22 September 2025, the sixth of seven Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarines built by BAE Systems at Barrow-in-Furness, with the commissioning warrant read on behalf of the King. The 97-metre boat displaces about 7,400 tonnes submerged, carries Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles, and is designed to operate without refuelling for its 25-year service life. Work on the fourth Dreadnought-class ballistic missile submarine, King George VI, began at the same yard around the same time.
