Description
The Pohang-class corvette ROKS Gwangmyeong (PCC-782) was decommissioned on 31 December 2025 after 36 years of service, the Seoul Shinmun reported. Built by Korea Tacoma and commissioned in July 1990 as the 22nd ship of the class, she served with the 1st and 3rd Fleets. In December 1998 she pursued a North Korean semi-submersible off Yeosu for seven hours and sank it with gunfire, according to the same report. The Republic of Korea Navy is replacing its remaining Pohang-class corvettes with Incheon-, Daegu- and Chungnam-class frigates.
