Description
Fire broke out at approximately 9:45 p.m. on 19 April 2026 while USS Zumwalt was pierside at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The crew extinguished the blaze, and three sailors received treatment for injuries; one was transported to a local hospital while two received first-aid at the scene. The Navy opened an investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of damage. Lead ship of the Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers and commissioned in 2016, she has been at Ingalls since August 2023 for a modernization replacing the Advanced Gun Systems with Conventional Prompt Strike hypersonic missile tubes.
