Description
Destroyed while in dry dock at Bandar Abbas during the 2026 Iran war. Janes reported the frigate sitting in dry dock on 5 March 2026, and high-resolution satellite imagery confirmed its destruction by 12 May 2026. Alborz was the last active frigate in the Iranian Navy. Originally named Zaal, the Alvand-class (Vosper Mark 5) frigate was built by Vickers in Britain for the pre-revolutionary Imperial Iranian Navy, launched in 1969 and commissioned in 1971. Renamed Alborz in 1985, she was armed with Noor anti-ship missiles and a 114 mm gun.
