Description
Suffered a fire while moored at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, on 24 June 2026. The blaze broke out around 11:30 a.m. and was extinguished by the ship's crew and Mayport Fire and Emergency Services. Seven sailors were taken to area hospitals, treated for minor injuries and released, and all were cleared to return to the ship the same afternoon. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Commissioned in 2019, Indianapolis is a Freedom-class littoral combat ship homeported at Mayport; the incident followed several shipboard fires across the U.S. fleet in 2026.
