Description
Inactivated on 31 July 2026 under the U.S. Navy fiscal year 2026 ship inactivation schedule announced in February. A Henry J. Kaiser-class fleet replenishment oiler operated by Military Sealift Command, John Ericsson entered service in March 1991 and last deployed in 2024, refuelling the carrier USS Ronald Reagan and allied warships across the Indo-Pacific. Rather than being scrapped or transferred, the ship will be kept as a logistics support asset and cannibalised for parts to sustain the remaining oilers. The class is progressively being replaced by the newer John Lewis-class oilers now entering service.
