Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration and Naval Group signed a 4.3 billion euro contract in Stockholm on 31 August 2026 for four Defence and Intervention frigates, confirming the selection made in May 2026. The ships will be delivered one per year from 2030 to 2034 and will serve as the Luleå class, named Luleå, Norrköping, Trelleborg and Halmstad. They will pair the French Aster 30 and CAMM-ER air-defence missiles with Swedish RBS15 anti-ship missiles, Torpedo 47, a Giraffe 1X radar and 57 mm and 40 mm guns. At roughly 4,460 tonnes they will displace about seven times as much as the Visby-class corvettes that are currently the largest surface combatants in Swedish service; a naval cruise missile fit remains an option.
