Indonesia Navy KRI Sriwijaya Commissioned

The former Italian light aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi was commissioned into the Indonesian Navy as KRI Sriwijaya (100) at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta on 24 September 2026, when the Italian ensign was lowered and the Indonesian flag raised, the Associated Press reported. Retired by Italy in 2024, the 180-metre, 13,850-tonne ship had arrived on 18 September after a 25-day voyage from Taranto via the Suez Canal. Indonesia's first aircraft carrier can operate helicopters and STOVL aircraft; the navy said she will mainly support disaster-relief missions, and Naval Today reported a four-to-five-month refit of her NATO communications systems.
