Description

TOTE Services, the US Navy's vessel construction manager for the Medium Landing Ship programme, selected Hanwha Defense USA on 30 October 2026 to build one ship at Hanwha Philly Shipyard under a $269 million award, with options for three more, according to the company announcement reported by Naval News and gCaptain. Construction is due to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027, and the programme's first ship is expected in 2030. It is Hanwha's first US Navy shipbuilding contract. Based on Damen's LST-100 design, the class is planned at 35 ships to move Marines and equipment between islands and coastlines, with TOTE's initial contract covering up to eight.
