Overview
- Royal Jordanian Army (القوات البرية الملكية الأردنية): Conducts land combat, border security, and territorial defense from its headquarters in Amman. It is organized into four regional commands—Northern, Central, Eastern, and Southern—and includes the Special Royal Guard Command, the Quick Reaction Force Brigade, and the King Abdullah II Special Forces Group. The force operates armored combat vehicles, main battle tanks, and self-propelled artillery.
- Royal Jordanian Air Force (سلاح الجو الملكي الأردني): Manages aerial defense, close air support, and tactical transport operations from headquarters in Tabarbour, Amman. Subordinate units operate F-16 multirole fighters, AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters, C-130 transport aircraft, and integrated surface-to-air missile batteries. The branch also maintains training centers and coordinates with regional partners for joint exercises.
- Royal Jordanian Navy (القوة البحرية الملكية الأردنية): Executes maritime border patrols, harbor defense, and counter-smuggling operations along Jordan's coastline in the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea. Based at the naval headquarters and base in Aqaba, it operates inshore and offshore patrol craft, rescue boats, and landing craft. Specialized components include the Royal Boats Command and maritime special forces for diver and boarding operations.
- Jordanian Gendarmerie Forces (قوات الدرك الأردنية): Maintains internal security and public order as a paramilitary force with military status under the Ministry of Interior. It conducts riot control, high-risk arrests, and counter-terrorism support, operating under the Joint Chiefs of Staff during national crises. The force is structured into Northern, Central, and Southern regional directorates.
