Description
The IRIS Shahid Bagheri (C-110-4) is a drone carrier operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy. The vessel was converted between 2022 and 2024 from the South Korean-built container ship Perarin (IMO 9209350) at the Iran Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex near Bandar Abbas. Conversion activities were first identified in satellite imagery in January 2023, with the most visible modification being an angled flight deck with a ski-jump ramp, similar in layout to light aircraft carriers.
The design is configured for the operation of fixed-wing UAVs and rotary-wing aircraft. The 180-metre flight deck supports Ababil-3N carrier drones, JAS-313 stealth drones, Mohajer-6 UAVs, and Homa VTOL drones, alongside Bell 206 and Mi-171 helicopters. The vessel's internal spaces accommodate over 30 fast attack craft and guided subsurface vessels. Onboard infrastructure includes a flight control tower, drone fueling station, hospital with operating room, and crew facilities. The ship is equipped with ESM and SIGINT electronics.
The original 240-metre hull retains its single MAN B&W diesel engine. The vessel is rated for seaworthiness up to Force 9 and is designed for extended operations without port calls. Sea trials began in November 2024, and the ship was commissioned on 6 February 2025 at Bandar Abbas. On 28 February 2026, the vessel was struck and destroyed by U.S. forces at Bandar Abbas during the opening hours of Operation Epic Fury. CENTCOM confirmed the destruction on 2 March, noting that the Shahid Bagheri was targeted within hours of the campaign's launch. The ship had been in service for less than one month.
