Description
The Type 074A landing ship medium, designated by NATO as the Yubei class, is an amphibious warfare vessel developed as part of the Type 074 series for the People's Liberation Army Navy.
The vessel utilizes a catamaran hull design. It is the first landing ship medium in the Chinese navy to feature infrared stealth integration, which is achieved by positioning the engine exhaust near the waterline. The design also incorporates a dedicated facility for launching and recovering speedboats. In terms of transport capability, the class can carry three Type 96 or Type 59 tanks, or six Type 63 tanks. Its troop capacity accommodates either a single platoon of 70 fully equipped soldiers alongside vehicles, or up to 250 fully equipped troops.
The class is operated by the People's Liberation Army Navy. More than ten vessels of the Type 074A class were in active service by mid-2015.
