Description
A South Korean Air Force F-35A made an emergency belly landing at Seosan Air Base on 4 January 2022 during a training flight. According to Yonhap, citing officials, avionics problems caused the landing gear to malfunction and the pilot walked away unscathed. Firefighters had laid special foam on the runway, which officials said prevented serious damage to the fuselage. The air force said it would suspend all F-35A flights pending a joint investigation with the US military and the manufacturer. It was reported as the first known belly landing of an exported F-35A.
