Description

A Super Hornet assigned to Carrier Air Wing 1 was blown off the deck of USS Harry S. Truman on 8 July 2022 in the Mediterranean Sea, according to a U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa release. The Navy said the carrier was conducting a replenishment at sea, which was safely terminated, when unexpected heavy weather swept the aircraft overboard. No one was aboard the jet, and one sailor suffered minor injuries during the weather. A Navy spokesperson said the Sixth Fleet planned to recover the aircraft, according to The Defense Post. The Navy said the cause was under investigation and the carrier and its embarked aircraft remained fully mission capable.
