United States Army AH-64D/E Crash

Two United States Army AH-64 Apache attack helicopters collided near Healy in central Alaska while returning from a training flight, killing three soldiers and injuring a fourth. The aircraft belonged to an attack battalion of the 25th Aviation Regiment based at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks, whose crews train for operations in cold weather and mountainous terrain. It was the second fatal collision between Army helicopters in a month, after a night training accident in Kentucky, and the service subsequently ordered a stand-down across its aviation units so that safety procedures and training could be reviewed.
