Description
A Brazilian Air Force RQ-900 Hermes crashed on 7 May 2024 while flying support missions for the population affected by the Rio Grande do Sul floods. The Air Force said the remotely piloted aircraft suffered a technical problem during its operation and struck the ground in an uninhabited area; the CENIPA accident-investigation centre opened an inquiry. The aircraft belonged to the 1st Squadron of the 12th Aviation Group, the Esquadrão Hórus, and had been locating isolated flood victims and guiding rescue helicopters to them during Operation Taquari 2. Elbit's Brazilian subsidiary AEL Sistemas assisted the Air Force in bringing another aircraft into operation.
