Description
A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force P-3C Orion suffered a nose-gear failure while landing at Shimofusa Air Base in Chiba prefecture at about 16:10 on 8 May 2024. The Ministry of Defense said the aircraft veered eastward off the runway after touchdown; it rotated through about 90 degrees and came to rest on the grass with its nose on the ground and four propellers having cut into the soil. None of the twelve personnel aboard was injured and there was no fire. The aircraft sustained significant structural damage, but no write-off was reported.
