Description

A Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk of the United States Army collided in mid-air with a Bombardier CRJ701ER operated by PSA Airlines on behalf of American Airlines, over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. All 64 occupants of the airliner and all three crew aboard the Black Hawk were killed, making it the deadliest American aviation accident in more than two decades. The helicopter was conducting a night training flight along a published helicopter route through some of the most congested controlled airspace in the United States. The accident triggered sweeping restrictions on helicopter operations around the airport.
