Description
An Antonov An-26 of the Sudanese Air Force crashed into a residential area of Omdurman shortly after taking off from Wadi Seidna Air Base, following an apparent technical malfunction. At least 46 people were killed: 17 military personnel on board and 29 civilians on the ground, among them a senior army commander. Ten others were injured and several houses were destroyed in the Al-Thawra district of Karari. Sudanese military sources attributed the crash to mechanical failure rather than hostile fire, despite Rapid Support Forces claims. The An-26 was being used for resupply flights during the civil war.
