Description
A Mil Mi-17 helicopter of the Peruvian Army crashed while attempting to land at Chagal in Pataz District, La Libertad, killing one of the occupants. Pataz is a remote gold-mining district in the northern Andes where the Peruvian state has deployed troops against illegal mining and criminal groups, and where high-altitude landing sites offer very limited margins. Peru operates Russian-built Mi-17 variants across the army and air force for transport and resupply in mountainous terrain.
