Description
The United States Army completed the retirement of its manned aerial intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance turboprop fleet, including the DHC-7 based EO-5C Airborne Reconnaissance Low aircraft and the RC-12 Guardrail. The types had provided signals and imagery intelligence collection since the Cold War and were used intensively over Iraq and Afghanistan. The Army is transferring the mission to the High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System, a business-jet based platform, and to uncrewed aircraft, judging the legacy turboprops too slow and too vulnerable for operations against a peer adversary.
