Description
The Portuguese Air Force received its first five Embraer A-29N Super Tucanos, the first NATO-compliant configuration of the turboprop light attack and training aircraft. The A-29N adds NATO-standard datalink, a helmet-mounted display, metric instrumentation and secure communications. Portugal ordered the aircraft for advanced training, light attack, border surveillance and support to allied operations, and intends to offer them as a NATO training asset at Beja Air Base. Portugal is the launch customer for the European variant, which Embraer developed to broaden the type appeal within the alliance.
