Description
Myanmar's military commissioned new combat aircraft at an air base in Meiktila, Mandalay Region, on 12 March 2026. The military did not give the number or types, but according to the Associated Press photos it released suggest four jets, including two Russian-made Su-30s; Army Recognition identified them as Su-30SME multirole fighters. The Associated Press said it was the sixth time the military had commissioned new aircraft since it seized power in February 2021, and the ceremony came as the army pressed an offensive to retake territory from resistance forces. Myanmar's 2018 contract with Rosoboronexport covered at least six Su-30SMEs, whose deliveries began in 2022.
