Description

The US Army took delivery of a mission-capable UH-60MX Black Hawk equipped with Sikorsky MATRIX autonomy suite, allowing the helicopter to fly with or without a crew on board. The aircraft was handed over at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where it supports evaluations led by the Army Combat Capabilities Development Command. Developed from DARPA ALIAS programme, the MATRIX system had already completed uncrewed flight testing on earlier Black Hawk testbeds. The Army intends to use the airframe to explore autonomous resupply and casualty evacuation in contested airspace, where crewed missions would carry unacceptable risk. It is a single technology demonstrator rather than a production configuration.
