Description

A UH-72A Lakota operating out of Fort Rucker went down in a privately owned field off Cool Springs Road near Opp, in Covington County, Alabama, on the afternoon of 27 July 2026. An instructor pilot and two student pilots were aboard on a routine training sortie. All three were airlifted to a hospital in Dothan and listed in stable condition, and there were no injuries or property damage on the ground. Local reporting described the airframe as destroyed. The Army has not released a cause and an investigation is under way. The Lakota is the service's primary rotary-wing trainer, with about 480 in Army service.
