Algerian Air Force Mi-8/17/171 Transfer

Two Mi-171 transport helicopters formed the second half of the four-aircraft package Algeria's Ministry of National Defence donated to the Nigerien Armed Forces on 9 August 2026. They flew from the secondary deployment base at In Guezzam to Niamey airport alongside two Mi-24V gunships, with transport aircraft carrying ammunition, spare parts and logistical support. The Mi-171 is the Ulan-Ude-built member of the Mi-8/17 family and is counted within Algeria's large Hip fleet. The donation follows a pattern of Algerian materiel support to neighbouring Sahel states facing insurgencies in the border regions.
