Niger Air Force Mi-17 Delivered

Two Mi-171 transport helicopters donated by Algeria arrived at Niamey airport on 9 August 2026, completing a four-aircraft package that also included two Mi-24V gunships. The helicopters flew from the Algerian deployment base at In Guezzam, with transport aircraft carrying ammunition, spare parts and logistical support. The Mi-171 belongs to the same Mi-8/17 family as Niger's existing Hip fleet, easing crew conversion and maintenance. Transport helicopters are the limiting factor in Nigerien operations across the Tillaberi and Diffa regions, where road movement is slow and exposed to ambush and improvised explosive devices.
