United States Army AH-64D/E Crash

An AH-64 Apache attack helicopter assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division crashed at about 1:35 p.m. local time on 12 August 2026 in a field off Dove Hollow Road near Salado, Bell County, Texas, roughly 20 km south of Fort Hood. Both crew members aboard were killed. The aircraft was on a routine training mission when it went down, and the impact started a grass fire that the Texas A&M Forest Service named the Dove Hollow Fire; it burned about 155 acres and forced the evacuation of nearby homes before being contained. The Army opened a safety investigation into the cause.
