Description
Ukrainian long-range drones struck Engels-2 Air Base in Saratov Oblast overnight on 28 August 2026, hitting a Tu-95MS strategic bomber parked in the open. Commercial satellite imagery published the following day shows roughly a third of the right wing sheared off, between the inboard and outboard NK-12 nacelles. Open-source imagery analysts assess the airframe as beyond economic repair, since Tu-95 production ended decades ago and no structural replacement exists; Russian authorities have not commented on the strike. It is the second Tu-95MS hit at the base in six weeks, after a strike on 16 July 2026 destroyed the tail section of another aircraft.
