Description
A Nigerian Air Force ATR 42-500 maritime surveillance aircraft crashed near Igbokoda, in the Ilaje area of Ondo State, on 5 October 2026 while flying a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft at 09:13 local time, Nigeria's aviation minister said, and its wreckage was later found near the naval base at Igbokoda. All 32 people on board, 25 passengers and seven crew, were killed, President Bola Tinubu said, declaring three days of national mourning. Aviation Safety Network lists the aircraft as an ATR 42 MP Surveyor of 107 Air Maritime Group. The president ordered the Air Force to investigate the cause.
