Description
The Royal Malaysian Air Force received its first two FA-50M Block 20 light combat aircraft on 30 October 2026, when the jets landed at RMAF Labuan after a ferry flight from Korea Aerospace Industries at Sacheon, South Korea. The Defence Minister received the aircraft at Labuan; the official handover ceremony is planned for mid-November at Kuantan Air Base, home of No. 15 Squadron. The pair are the first of 18 ordered from KAI in May 2023 for close to RM4 billion under the Fighter Lead-In Training and Light Combat Aircraft programme, with six aircraft due by April 2027 and the remainder in early 2028. The type is to replace the Hawk, whose retirement is planned for 2028.
