RMAF Labuan

RMAF Labuan is a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base located in the Federal Territory of Labuan, East Malaysia, where it is collocated with Labuan Airport.

The facility originated as a Royal Air Force detachment under the command of Group Captain S.J. Rawling. Following the formation of Malaysia in September 1963, personnel were deployed to the airbase under Air Force Borneo, initially operating Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer aircraft for logistics and patrol missions. The 1963 Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation prompted the airfield's expansion into a primary airbase. Beginning in 1965, the facility established a main administration branch, expanded existing detachments, formed new squadrons, and commissioned additional aircraft. In 1966, No. 8 Squadron received de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou aircraft to supplement its Twin Pioneers, while No. 5 Squadron relocated to the base from Kuala Lumpur with Aérospatiale Alouette III helicopters. The airbase was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Defence in 1968.

Operating under the RMAF 2nd Division, RMAF Labuan grants direct air access to the South China Sea and East Malaysia. The base hosts three assigned squadrons: No. 5 Squadron operating Eurocopter EC-725 helicopters, No. 6 Squadron operating BAE Hawk 108 and BAE Hawk 208 aircraft, and No. 14 Squadron operating Lockheed C-130H Hercules transport aircraft.
