Description

Al-Anad Air Base is a Yemeni military installation located in the Tuban district of the Lahij Governorate. The Soviet Union built the facility for South Yemen during the Cold War.

During the 1994 Yemeni Civil War, the base was a site of combat. It later functioned as a headquarters for United States intelligence-gathering and counterterrorism operations in southern Yemen. In March 2015, the U.S. withdrew its special forces from the installation during a brief takeover of the governorate by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

On March 25, 2015, Houthi fighters and the 201st Armoured Brigade of the Yemen Army captured the facility. Forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi shelled the base the following day. On August 3, 2015, loyalist fighters supported by Saudi and United Arab Emirates ground forces recaptured the installation.
