Base aérienne 928 Brest-Loperhet

Base aérienne 928 Brest-Loperhet "Commandant Gildas Tison" is a French Air and Space Force base located in Loperhet, 15 kilometers from Brest. The site originated in 1968 with the establishment of Air Detection and Control Center 08.927 at the location of the Brittany radar, co-located with the Direction générale de l'aviation civile (DGAC). In 1976, the unit was attached to Base aérienne 705 Tours. It was reorganized as Air Detachment 928 in 2014 before gaining operational autonomy. On September 25, 2025, Air Detachment 928 was dissolved and established as Base aérienne 928.

The base functions as the administrative authority for all Air and Space Force personnel stationed in Brittany, managing over 600 personnel, including 170 working directly on site. Its physical infrastructure comprises four sectors, divided between the Air and Space Force and the DGAC, and includes two medium- and high-altitude radars.

Key operational units stationed at the base include:

• Military Coordination and Control Center "Iroise" (CMCC "Iroise"): Controls military air traffic across the northwestern sector of France, provides civil air traffic data to support the permanent air security posture, coordinates airspace allocation between civil and military aviation, and holds exclusive authority for guiding air-to-air refueling operations for French aircraft within its zone of responsibility.
• Aeronautical Information and Communication Systems Squadron "Gorre Menez" (ESICAéro): Deploys, operates, and maintains communication, navigation, and air surveillance equipment, specifically servicing the base's medium- and high-altitude radar arrays.
• Protection Squadron 1G.928 (EP 1G.928): Composed of air commando riflemen (fusiliers-commandos de l'air) and a military working dog section, tasked with the defense and security of base facilities, equipment, and personnel.
