Description

Bratsk Airport is a mixed-use airfield located 8 kilometers north of Bratsk, in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. It serves both public and military aviation, providing 32 parking spaces for medium-sized airliners. The airport functions as a diversion airport on Polar route 2 and is described as an international airport, although it currently handles only internal flights within Russia. It is operated by AeroBratsk, its primary civilian tenant, and consistently serves over 100,000 passengers annually, making it the second-largest airport in the Irkutsk region.

Historically, the 350th Interceptor Aviation Regiment (350 IAP) was stationed at Bratsk, beginning in 1984 with Tupolev Tu-128 aircraft. This regiment was responsible for the air defense of a significant portion of the Siberian interior, utilizing the long-range capabilities of the Tu-128s. By the 1990s, the unit had been upgraded with MiG-31 jets. The 350 IAP was disbanded in 2002. Following its disbandment, a small search and rescue detachment, consisting of three An-26 transports and three Mi-8 helicopters, was present under the command of the 32nd Independent Composite Aviation Regiment (32 OSAP), which is based at Yekaterinburg. This detachment was previously known as 11 APSO. While most of the military barrack blocks and ancillary buildings have been demolished, a large hangar from the 1980s remains standing.
