Description
Ebbing Air National Guard Base is an airfield located adjacent to Fort Smith Regional Airport in Fort Smith, Arkansas, sharing its runways. Established in 1953, the base has continuously hosted the Arkansas Air National Guard's 188th Wing (188 WG) since its inception. Historically, the 188th Wing operated fighter aircraft such as the F-4 Phantom II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and A-10 Thunderbolt II. Currently, the 188th Wing's mission sets include Remotely Piloted Aircraft (MQ-9 Reaper), ISR (Distributed Ground Station-Arkansas), and Targeting (Space-Focused). Air traffic services for the base and the co-located Fort Smith Regional Airport are provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through an air traffic control tower and TRACON.
The base serves as a training location for international partners; the Republic of Singapore Air Force plans to establish an F-16 and F-35 training detachment, with the first aircraft expected in 2023. Additionally, the Polish Air Force commenced F-35A pilot training at Ebbing, with the first Polish pilot completing an F-35 flight from the base on January 31, 2025. The base features two asphalt runways: 1/19, measuring 1,524 meters (5,001 feet), and 7/25, measuring 2,444 meters (8,017 feet).
