Description

Klin is a military air base located 4 km north of Klin, Russia, situated halfway between Moscow and Tver. It is operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. The airfield was active until the 1990s, with many military transport aircraft types such as Il-76, An-12, An-26, and Tupolev Tu-134 in service. During the Cold War, it served as an early air defense base and hosted several surface-to-air missile units. The 78th Separate Military Aviation Squadron of the 61st Air Army, formerly part of Military Transport Aviation, has been listed as stationed at Klin. In the 1970s, an Interceptor Aviation Regiment flying Su-15TM and MiG-23M aircraft was stationed at Klin before being disbanded in 1979. In November 2024, Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence claimed responsibility for a Mi-24 helicopter, reportedly belonging to the 92nd squadron of the 344th center of combat application and retraining of the air force of the army aviation of Russia, being destroyed by fire at the air base.
