Description
Lajes Field, officially Air Base No. 4, is a Portuguese military airfield at Lajes on Terceira Island in the Azores. Built in 1934, it developed into one of Portugal's most strategic air bases because of its mid-Atlantic position between Europe and North America. The base supports Portuguese Air Force operations, the Azores Air Zone Command, and dual civil use through the adjacent passenger terminal.
