Description
Machulishchy Air Base is located in the Minsk Region of Belarus. During the Soviet period, it functioned as a strategic bomber and interceptor base. The 121st Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment operated Tupolev Tu-22 aircraft from the facility beginning in the mid-1960s. The unit conducted dual Navy-Air Force missions for anti-surface warfare, providing coverage over the Baltic Sea and deployment capability to the Barents Sea region. In the 1970s, the airfield hosted an interceptor regiment operating Sukhoi Su-9 aircraft, which were replaced by MiG-23P aircraft in 1979.
The Air Force and Air Defence Forces of the Republic of Belarus currently operate the installation. It is the station for the 50th Composite Air Base. Current aircraft hosted at the site include Antonov An-26 and Ilyushin Il-76MD transport aircraft, alongside Mil Mi-8 and Mil Mi-24 helicopters.
