Marrakech-Menara Air Base (Marrakesh Menara Airport)

Marrakech-Menara Air Base is a joint civil-military airfield serving Marrakesh, capital of the Marrakesh-Safi region in central Morocco. The airfield is owned by the Royal Moroccan Air Force and operated by Airports of Morocco (ONDA), which manages its civilian passenger and cargo functions. Under the civilian designation Marrakesh Menara Airport, it handles scheduled and charter traffic to Europe, Casablanca, the Arab world and, since 2024, North America. easyJet, Ryanair and TUI fly Belgium maintain operating bases at the airport, and Royal Air Maroc and Transavia France use it as a focus city.

During the Second World War, the United States Army Air Forces Air Transport Command used the airfield as a staging point for cargo, transiting aircraft and personnel. It functioned as a stopover on the North African Cairo–Dakar transport route, with onward legs to Casablanca Airfield and Agadir Airport. In August 1991 the airport reopened following a US$8 million programme that extended the runway and refurbished its buildings.

The airfield has a single paved runway capable of receiving aircraft up to the Boeing 747 in size. It is equipped with an ILS Category II landing system and VOR, DME and NDB radio navigation aids. The aircraft parking apron covers 125,000 m² and accommodates up to fourteen Boeing 737s and four Boeing 747s simultaneously. Passenger facilities consist of Terminals 1 and 2, housed in a single building, and a third terminal. A separate freight terminal provides 340 m² of covered space. Menara is one of six Moroccan airports where ONDA offers its Salon Convives de Marque VIP service.

The airport served over 6.3 million passengers in 2019. It recorded 48,150 aircraft movements in 2023 and approximately 9.3 million passengers in 2024.
