Description

Náměšť Air Base is a military installation of the Czech Air Force located near Sedlec in the Třebíč district. The base was established in 1956 following government approval. The 20th Fighter Aviation Regiment, initially formed at Čáslav with MiG-15 aircraft, transferred to the facility on January 14, 1960. Redesignated as the 20th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment in 1961, the unit operated MiG-15 SB aircraft until 1965, followed by Su-7 BM and L-29 Delfín types. Su-22 aircraft were introduced in 1987.

Administrative changes in 1994 resulted in the establishment of the 32nd Tactical Air Base, which hosted Su-25 aircraft. In 1998, the base received the honorary name "Biskajská" in reference to the 311th RAF Bomber Squadron. By March 2002, the base completed a transition to the L-159 ALCA. The 22nd Air Base was established on December 1, 2003. Rotary-wing operations expanded in 2008 with the arrival of Mi-24 helicopters from Přerov, followed by Mi-171Š helicopters in 2013. The installation was redesignated the 22nd Helicopter Air Base on December 1, 2013.

Current operations center on helicopter aviation, with the 221st Helicopter Squadron, 222nd Helicopter Squadron, and 223rd Aviation Technical Repair Squadron stationed at the facility. A training hangar for AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters opened in 2025. The runway surface was reconstructed in 2020.
