Description
RAFO Musannah is a Royal Air Force of Oman air base located 42.6 kilometers southwest of Barka in Al Batinah South Governorate, near Muladdah.
Initial construction of the installation began in 2005 with the building of a helicopter apron and hangar. The runway and two northern concrete aprons were constructed between 2008 and 2009. Development of the southern section began in 2010, consisting of a large apron, hangar, and additional facilities. In 2012, the southern apron was expanded by 25 percent to add two parking stands and another taxiway entrance. Personnel accommodation was constructed between 2009 and 2011.
The base hosts Royal Air Force of Oman NHIndustries NH90 helicopters. The facility has also hosted deployed forces, including No. 902 Expeditionary Air Wing RAF with Royal Navy AgustaWestland Merlin HM.2 helicopters operating under Operation Kipion.
