Description
Wittmundhafen Air Base (Fliegerhorst Wittmundhafen) is a German Air Force (Luftwaffe) installation located in Germany. It is home to Tactical Air Force Wing 71 (Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 71).
The base currently operates the Eurofighter Typhoon, which replaced the F-4F Phantom II in 2013. Historical aircraft operations at the site included the F-104G Starfighter until May 1974 and the F-4F Phantom II from May 1974 through its retirement on June 29, 2013. Between the 1970s and the mid-to-late 1980s, the wing also utilized Dornier Do 28D aircraft. F-86 and F-104 aircraft are positioned at the base as gate guardians.
The facility functions as the storage site for all former F-4F Phantoms of the German Air Force.
