Description

The HESA Fotros is an Iranian reconnaissance, surveillance, and combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufactured by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation. Unveiled in November 2013 during a joint ceremony by the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF), and the Islamic Republic of Iran Army (IRAA), it was the largest Iranian drone at the time of its release. The timing of its unveiling is believed to have been scheduled to precede the P5+1 negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear programs. Following its announcement, no updates on its status were released until 2020, when the drone was announced to have entered service. Production is believed to have commenced, with at least three airframes produced.

Design

The Fotros has an operational range of 1,700 km to 2,000 km, a service ceiling of 7,600 m (25,000 ft), and a flight endurance of 16 to 30 hours, depending on its payload.

Armament

The UAV carries up to six missiles or bombs. Armament options include at least six Ghaem precision-guided munitions, or six of three unnamed precision-guided munitions.

Operational History

In 2020, the Fotros participated in the "Defenders of Velayat Skies" military training exercise.
