Description

The ORSIS T-5000 is a Russian bolt-action sniper rifle, the first product developed by the ORSIS company and built at its Moscow factory. It was introduced in 2011 at the Russian arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil and is entirely original, using no third-party components - a notable claim in a market where many Russian precision rifles have been built around imported actions or barrels. According to Dmitry Semiozerov, general director of TsNIITochMash, the T-5000 sniper complex had been adopted by the FSB, the Federal Protective Service and Rosgvardiya as of 2017.

In standard configuration the rifle carries a 660 mm fluted stainless steel barrel, lengthened to 698 mm in .338 Lapua Magnum, cut with a twist rate between 1-in-10 and 1-in-12 depending on the customer's requirements. The stainless steel stock uses a heavily skeletonised design with highly adjustable butt and cheekpiece assemblies on a folding stock that shortens the rifle by around 250 mm for transport. The trigger is adjustable from 500 g in the Varmint configuration to over 1,500 g depending on the application, and a Picatinny rail is provided for optics. It feeds from a five-round detachable box magazine, and is chambered across an unusually wide range of cartridges: 6.5x47mm Lapua, 7.62x51mm NATO, .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Lapua Magnum and .375 CheyTac.

The version adopted in 2017 by the FSB, FSO and National Guard is designated Tochnost ("precision") and is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and .338 Lapua Magnum. A further Tochnost rifle in .375 CheyTac, hardened for rough military conditions and credited with a range beyond 2,000 m, completed testing in the Moscow region in 2019. An anti-materiel variant chambered in 12.7x108mm, the ORSIS 12.7, was shown at the ARMY-2022 exhibition. Vietnam revealed a clone, the SBT-7,62M2, in 2024.

Beyond Russia the rifle is used by Belarus, where it serves with the Ministry of Defence and the Presidential Guard, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt's Unit 777 and Thunderbolt Forces, Iran's IRGC and army ground forces, Iraqi Special Operations Forces and the Popular Mobilisation Forces, Cameroon's Rapid Intervention Brigade and Presidential Guard, a SWAT unit of the Tianjin Municipal Public Security Bureau in China, and Vietnam. It has also been documented with Hezbollah.
