Ushuaia Naval Base (Almirante Berisso)

Ushuaia Naval Base, formally the Admiral Berisso Integrated Naval Base, is the southernmost port of the Argentine Navy. It lies at Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego province, on the northern shore of the Beagle Channel, and is the country's principal naval port and logistics centre for access to Antarctica. The base is named after Emilio Rodolfo Berisso, a naval officer killed in 1972.

Its jurisdiction covers the province of Santa Cruz, the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and Isla de los Estados, together with the maritime spaces extending south to the 60th parallel. Command responsibility also extends over the Río Grande Naval Air Base and the Puerto Deseado Naval Base.

The base homeports patrol forces, including the fast patrol vessel ARA Indómita (P-86), the Baradero-class patrol boats ARA Baradero (P-61), ARA Barranqueras (P-62), ARA Clorinda (P-63) and ARA Concepción del Uruguay (P-64), the patrol vessel ARA Zurubí (P-55), and the tug ARA Toba (R-8). Argentine Navy units taking part in the annual Antarctic Campaign use the base for maintenance and resupply.

Port depth allows the berthing of large ships. The Ushuaia Naval Air Station, established on the site of the former airport, falls within the base's scope and is used by fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters of the Naval Aviation Command operating in the South Atlantic.

The installation was founded on 13 December 1950 under President Juan Perón, to provide a base of operations for support ships working in the southern sector.
