El Salvador Navy General Manuel José Arce Sunk

Sank off Los Cóbanos, Sonsonate, after being laid up; divers documented the wreck in March 2012, and it has since acted as an artificial reef. No source records a deliberate scuttling, and the date of the sinking itself is not established — the event is dated to the month the wreck was first reported. Built in 1943 as the U.S. Coast Guard's Cactus-class seagoing buoy tender Madrona (WLB-302), the ship was decommissioned by the USCG in 2002 and transferred to the Salvadoran Navy as BL-01 General Manuel José Arce along with other surplus U.S. cutters. Chronic hull leaks made the vessel unaffordable to maintain, and it was formally discarded in 2007; it lay unused before being sunk roughly 7 kilometres offshore at Los Cóbanos Beach.
