Description
The Brazilian Navy commissioned the diesel-electric submarine Riachuelo (S40) on 1 September 2022 at the Itaguaí naval base, according to Naval News. Riachuelo is the first of four Scorpène-type submarines built under the PROSUB programme by Itaguaí Construções Navais with Naval Group technology transfer. The boat was launched in December 2018 and had completed sea trials. The Scorpène design displaces about 2,000 tonnes, has six torpedo tubes and carries 18 weapons.
