Brazil Navy Humaitá Commissioned

The Brazilian Navy held the Mostra de Armamento ceremony for the submarine Humaitá (S41) on 12 January 2024, formally bringing the second Riachuelo-class boat into service under the PROSUB submarine development programme, Poder Naval reported. The class is an enlarged Brazilian version of the Scorpène design built at Itaguaí, displacing about 2,200 tonnes submerged over a length of 71.6 metres, with six 533 mm torpedo tubes for F21 torpedoes and SM39 Exocet missiles. Humaitá follows the lead boat Riachuelo, commissioned in September 2022; the third boat, Tonelero, was delivered in November 2025.
